With an education in Church Park convent and a degree Fine Arts from Stella Maris College, Sharan Apparao decided to get into the art business after curating an exhibition of Chinese paintings in 1983 where she managed to sell every painting. With an innate entrepreneurial spirit, she developed her love for the arts, by working at the Smithsonian; Christie’s and a course at Harvard University.

Today, Sharan Apparao is an established name in the Indian art world. She was honoured by FICCI as one of the top women achievers in the country, for her talent and passion in promoting contemporary Indian art. Not only she does she run the gallery, but she also manages her auction house Apparaoart Auctions and export concern ‘Art Route’, through which she takes Contemporary Indian Art global. She writes on art and travel for various publications and her next project is artshphercontemporary.com, a virtual trading platform that will showcase the best of Asian art.

Sharan finds it important for a curator to steer clear of commerce and look at art with an open mind. “The business of art, minus the art of business”, that is her motto.
